05 Sep Higalaay Street Festival 2016 – Cagayan de Oro’s Signature Fiesta Event Draws Crowds to Party under the Electric Sky
The most sought after and awaited street dance party finally erupted during the city fiesta. The Higalaay Street Festival 2016 rave party took off under the electric skies of the Biasong Tinib Road at the Paseo del Rio Rotunda.
The rave party started on August 28 at 8:00 p.m. and romped and danced on until 4:00 a.m. of August 29.
Flairtending Competition and Fashion Show at Centrio
Before the rave party, a pre-rave party show was held last August 26 at the Activity Center of the Ayala Centrio Mall.
Last August 26, the Higalaay Tanduay Flair Tending and Bar Tending Competition and Jazz Up Your Higalaay Shirt Fashion Show was held at the Centrio Mall as part of the pre-rave party show.
The winner’s drink from the Tanduay competition would become the official drink mix that would be served as the free entrance drink to all ticket holders.
The fashion show also showed some of CDO’s top models as well as the winners of the Miss Cagayan de Oro pageant and the winners of the Barangay Gwapo All-Star Plus Season 6, all jazzed up in their specific Higalaay t-shirt styles.
Main Event Proper
At the rave party on August 28, the gates actually opened around 2:00 p.m. because by 3:00 p.m. a live Hip Hop Dance Contest opened the party.
Many of the dance groups were from Cagayan de Oro with groups coming from all over Misamis Oriental and even Iligan City. This was followed by the Flip Top Competition at around 4:00 p.m.
Several booths colored the street festival to provide drinks to the party-goers. Some booths even offered face paint to make the event more fun and enjoyable.
Rave Party
By 9:00 p.m. the real rave party really took off. DJ RB Banaag, Kyle Banaag, MC Paolo Avila, Nikko Cordero, Arnold Jag Sundqvist, Red Laviña Maningo, Mark Daquiz, R-funk Ylaya, Danna Lee, Bryan Paganpan Galarroza, Jason Mad Demata, MC White Boi, and Raymond “RainMan” Dizon provided the electric dance mixes that got everyone on their feet pounding down on the pavement.
With last year’s resounding success, this year’s street festival proved to be much more with Jenil Aspiras (international DJ) and Ace Ramos.
Before midnight a couple of fire dancers performed in front of the DJ stage to the delight and awe of the audience.
At around 12 midnight, the highlights of the party were the sudsy and soapy foam that was released to get the party-goers all wet as well as the fireworks display that got everyone shouting to the high heavens.
