Members of Iligan City Highway Patrol Team Arrested For Extorting Motorists With Violations

Members of the Iligan City Highway Patrol Team were arrested in an entrapment operation for extorting money from motorists with traffic violations.

The arrested personnel were identified as Senior Insp. Rolando Rigat, Chief of Iligan City Highway Patrol Team; SPO2 Crisanto Bernardo; and 2 civilian auxiliary- Mac Harvey Abad and Sidney Cañete.

According to Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga, the entrapment operation was conducted yesterday evening, March 7, when the HPG group tried to acquire P3,000 from a driver who doesn’t have a plate number.

“Allegedly, kasi itong team na ito, they are extorting money from vehicles passing the area of Iligan City,” said Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga.

Furthermore, the Counter Intelligence Task Force of Iligan City Police Office then recovered the 3,000-peso marked money that Rigat tried to dispose of in the bathroom and a P5000 from his drawer.
