House Approves Bills Requiring Parents & Graduating Students To Plant Trees

Mga higala! The House of Representatives has approved House Bill No. 6930 or the “Family Tree Planting Act” and House Bill No. 6931 or the “Graduation Legacy for Reforestation Act”!

House Bill No. 6930 requires all parents (legally married or not) to plant 2 trees for every child born to them, within 30 days of their birth.

Meanwhile, House Bill No. 6931 mandates all graduating senior high school and college students to plant 2 trees each “as a civic duty for environment protection and preservation” and as an official requirement for the students’ graduation.

These bills require the species of every planted tree to be appropriate for the location, climate, and topography of a parent or student’s area, with a preference for the planting of indigenous species and fruit-bearing trees.
