19 Apr House Panel Approves Construction Of Memorials For Sendong Victims In CDO
Mga higala! The House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources has approved the construction of 5 memorial shrines for the victims of Bagyong Sendong in Cagayan de Oro City (December 2011)!
These were dubbed as “CDO Sendong Memorials” and are part of Cong. Rufus Rodriguez’s House Bill No. 2795. These will be built in the following areas:
- Sitio Kalakala (Brgy. Macasandig)
- Isla de Oro (Brgy. 13 and 15)
- Isla Delta, Isla Bugnaw and Isla Baksan (Brgy. Consolacion)
The memorial shrines will serve as the final resting place of the more than 1,000 Kagay-anons who died in the city because of the said typhoon.
These will also serve as eco-parks where families can gather “to spend quality time together, and where kids can play.”
Moreover, the shrines will be planted with trees and grasses and will have an obelisk at the center. River protection and retaining walls then be constructed to stabilize the slopes along the parks.
