22 Dec Alleged Human Trafficker Seized at Laguindingan Airport, 2 Victims were Rescued
Illegal recruiter of human trafficking was apprehended at Laguindingan Airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.
According to a report from Sun.Star, two alleged victims aged 16 and 22 years old were rescued during the joint police operation from the supposed recruiter on December 20, Tuesday.
The suspect was identified as Ma. Nelsie Navidas, 53 years old and was supposed to be departing for Manila together with the two alleged human trafficking victims.
Police officers of Lumbia Police Station and Laguindingan Airport Police conducted the joint operation.
The victims both resides in Lumbia village and that they are neighbors, said Police Station 8 Chief Dennis Ebsolo.
The minor’s father reported his minor child who had gone missing to the police on Sunday which prompted them to take immediate action.
The police tried to talk to the suspect but she denied the allegations saying that the child was not with her.
Though the suspect denied the claims, the police still pursued their investigations and were keeping track of the suspect. The police even deployed some of their personnel in ports and at Laguindingan airport as they have monitored the suspects’ activities.
It was said that the victims were offered good wages by working at a truck and rice store which urged them to grab the opportunity without telling their parents about it.
Navidas will be facing charges for violating the expanded human trafficking law.
