29 May Iligan City government denies city lockdown rumors to prevent Marawi siege spillover
Iligan City’s police command has denied rumors about their city’s entire lockdown but, instead, announced that a tight security check up will be done for people and vehicles entering the city.
In an article from Inquirer.net, the city police department through their Facebook page that there will be a lot of checkpoints conducted around the vicinity and at the heart of the city to prevent similar attacks done by the Maute group in Marawi City.
The Facebook post further stated that anybody can get in and out of Iligan City provided that they pass all security measures which include check-ups on carrying contraband, firearms, explosives, among others.
On the other hand, the spread of the news about the authorities locking down the city was suspected to have started after an announcement was made by Joe Pantoja confirming the news over a radio interview by a Cagayan de Oro City-based radio network.
It turned out, however, that the announcement was made in the middle of a meeting by Iligan City officials to discuss a possible city lockdown to prevent similar attacks done in Marawi City and has yet to be approved.
