21 Oct CDO’s Pride Jiovani Jalalon Joins PBA Special Draft for Gilas Cadets
Among the 12 players who will be joining this year’s special Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Rookie Draft, Cagayan de Oro’s pride, Jiovanni Jalalon makes up the list of Gilas cadets.
Aside from Jalalon, top amateur standouts Mac Belo, and Kevin Ferrer will also take part in the special draft.
Other star performers also made up the final list of 12 players for Gilas including Von Pessumal, Russel Escoto, Roger Pogoy, Mike Tolomia, Arnold Van Opstal, Matthew Wright, Alfonso Gotladera, Ed Daquioag and Carl Bryan Cruz.
The special draft will be done before the regular rookie draft on October 30.
Al Panlilio, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president announced during a press conference, “That will make up the list of Gilas cadets who will be part of the special Draft.”
Based on the agreement, the players will be released to the national team two months before Gilas Pilipinas’ scheduled FIBA qualifying games and the players will have a no-trade clause for two years.
PBA teams will also lend one player each to Gilas Pilipinas to conclude the 24-player national pool.
PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa said, “Initially, the agreement will be the PBA players will be released 15 days before the tournament to join the cadets, so you have a pool of 24 players to choose from.”
