05 Nov LOOK: Kagay-anon Artist’s Jeepney-Inspired Design Wins 3rd Place In World Costume Festival 2019
Mga higala! Emmanuel Mulawan of Cagayan de Oro City has won the 3RD PLACE in the recent WORLD COSTUME FESTIVAL held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur!
Mulawan’s winning costume had a jeepney-inspired design, a vehicle he considers as the “king of the road” here in the City of Golden Friendship.
Below is a caption from his post, expressing the things that influenced his masterpiece:
“This creation is inspired by the Filipino common tao’s staple ride- the JEEPNEY.
(Where in my city its the Bugo, Kauswagan, Bayabas liner Jeeps that are truly “King” of the road with flashy lights and loud stereos installed in them) .
It is attuned with the long-standing call for jeep modernization that will greatly benefit the riding public, jeep operators and drivers, and the environment. This creation, painted in blue, is also a symbol of the unfied vision of the Filipino for a stable economy, harmonious society, and lasting peace, especially in Mindanao, where I trace my roots.
In my heart comes a deep sense of pride in representing my beloved city of Cagayan de Oro, that is why fluid design is reflective of the bodies of water that are identifiable of the City of Golden Friendship — the majestic Cagayan de Oro River that meets the Macajalar Bay up north. A river rafting adventure destination, CDO celebrates its Higalaay Festival every eight month of the year, thus the 8 rays of the sun, crafted in this masterpiece.”
