23 May Kagay-anon boxer Milan Melindo to book another fight after winning IBF world championship in Japan
After winning the recently concluded International Boxing Federation (IBF) world championship in Japan, Kagay-anon boxer Milan Melindo is looking to be booked in another boxing fight against former world championship holder Randy Petalcorin of General Santos City.
In an article from manilatimes.net, Sanman Chief Executive Officer Jim Claude Manangquil said that Petalcorin hopes to fight Melindo in another boxing match following his victory against Japanese boxing champion Akira Yaegashi in a first-round technical knockout at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan for the IBF Junior Flyweight title.
Manangquil hopes for Melindo’s positive feedback in a possible match against Petalcorin. He also believes that bringing back the golden days of Philippine boxing is in itself involves great Filipino boxers.
Petalcorin, IBF’s 4th ranking boxer, is a former World Boxing Association World Light Flyweight champion and is the IBF Pan Pacific Light Flyweight title holder.
On the other hand, Melindo’s feat in the IBF world championships contributed to the rise of his record to 36 wins, 13 by knockouts, against two losses, putting him next to other Filipino champions like Manny Pacquiao, Donnie Nietes, and Jerwin Ancajas.
