04 Sep Kagay-anon Olympian Ian “Yan-yan” Lariba Dies Due To Cancer @ 23
Mga higala! After years of battling leukemia, Kagay-anon athlete and Filipino Olympian Ian Lariba passed away last Sunday, September 2, at the age of 23.
In case you don’t know, Lariba became the first Filipina table tennis player who acquired a spot in the Olympics, having qualified to compete in the 2016 Rio de Janiero Games. But sadly, last May 2017, Ian Lariba was diagnosed with leukemia, and began treatment to fight the disease. She then had a successful bone marrow transplant on November, but recently relapsed last August 16.
The Philippine Sports Commission expressed its condolences on its official Twitter account late Sunday night.
