14 Feb Kagay-Anon Youth Lit Candles for Peace
To persuade the national government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) to resume peace talks, youths of Cagayan de Oro City gathered to lit candles at Divisoria on February 8, Wednesday.
According to a report from GMA News, the young people exerted efforts hoping that the government and NDFP to return to the negotiating table and have the peace talks anew.
It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte suspended the GRP-NDFP peace talks as the latter violated the unilateral ceasefire agreement.
The president has cited the recent armed conflicts between the military and the NDFP’s armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA).
The GRP-NDFP peace talks was making progress and should not be suspended, said Vennel Francis Chenfoo, Panalipdan Youth secretary-general.
The young people has also offered the candles for the tragic killing of lumad chiefs and the incidents of land grabbing in Bukidnon committed by the paramilitary groups.
