Kagay-anon boxer Milan “El Metodico” Melindo will be competing in the junior world flyweight division in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, May 21, 2017, with hopes of getting a world champion title.

In an article from news.abs-cbn.com, the Filipino boxer will be having a head-to-head battle with the Japanese 2-division world champion boxer Akira Yaegashi who is also the title holder for the minimumweight and light flyweight division.

On the other hand, Melindo has been training for 5 months for the said match. He shared in an interview that he sparred 22 rounds with 7 boxers just to improve his stamina and stability for his fight against the Japanese boxer.

He attempted to snatch a boxing world title in 2013 in his fight against Juan Francisco Estrada. Another one was when he challenged Javier Mendoza for the light flyweight title in 2015 but did not make it to the final round as the game was ended in the 6th round due to their frequent head classes.

However, his fascination for the world title was ignited when he won a fight against Thai boxer Fahlan Sakkrereen Jr over the junior flyweight title.

Melindo admitted that his opponent this coming Sunday is a tough one but he claimed himself to be a “…tactical fighter, thinking boxer.” and his upcoming fight will be an amazing one.
