23 Feb Kids Find Frag Grenade in Barangay Tablon

TV Patrol Northern Mindanao. Families were alarmed in Purok 13, Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City when some of their children were found playing with a grenade on Tuesday, February 13.
According to Shiela Mambaya, his son noticed an unusual object being played with by kids in their town and discovered upon inspection that it looked like a grenade. He confiscated the said object and wrapped its safety pin with tape.

Then, they hastily reported the incident to the Explosive and Ordinance Division (EOD) of COCPO. An officer conducted a verification of the object and confirmed that it was an MK2 Fragmentation Grenade which was still armed and can still explode.

According to a statement released by the EOD,”At about 9:00 am of February 21, 2018, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of COCPO responded a call from COCPS10 re turned-over grenade from concerned citizen which later technically identified upon verification as one (1) MK2 Fragmentation Hand Grenade, High Explosive with complete and intact fuzing system including safety mechanism.
This grenade is pineapple shaped with deep serrations of its body which delineate fragmentation of the body when the grenade explodes. Also has the capability of 5m as fatal distance and fragments projected further up to 230 meters when explode.”
Thankfully, no one was harmed due to the explosive unlike the recent tragedy in Surigao where 3 children died.
Kagay-anons are advised to report any suspicious items found and parents are reminded to teach their children what to do when finding strange objects.
