Do You Know That There Are Treatment Hubs

Last May 23, 2017, the City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro City has reported that there are 300 persons in Northern Mindanao who got infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The Department of Health (DOH), on the other hand, documented about 42,272 HIV cases nationwide from 1984 to present.

The body’s immune system is protected by the White Blood Cells (WBC) called CD4 or T-cells guarding the body against germs and illness.

HIV can be transferred in several ways Blood (including menstrual blood), Semen (“cum”) and other male sexual fluids (“pre-cum”), Vaginal fluids and Breast milk.

When the virus infects the body, the immune system weakens which results to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The immune system loses its agents resulted in serious infections and illness.

As the number of reported cases of HIV and AIDS grow within the City, the need for awareness and information about support systems need to grow as well.

With these, we have taken upon ourselves to do a little research and inform the public of two existing HIV treatment hubs available in CDO with intentions of providing relevant information to help bridge the gap between the need and the support available which may not be within everyone’s knowledge.
