Mga higala! The Association of Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP), one of the biggest labor groups in the country, is now calling for an increased minimum wage and a P710 across-the-board daily wage for workers in Cagayan de Oro City and Northern Mindanao.

According to Sunstar CDO, ALU-TUCP regional director-Nick Borja expressed that the minimum wage in CDO is currently at P365, and is even lower in the provinces and cities of Region X.

This minimum wage barely covers daily expenses, especially in the city, and more so for those who have a family, with the rising prices of food products, fuel, electricity, water, and even tuition.

“Dako gyud ang P710 pero wala may daotan ana, kay ideliberate pa siya, pero deserve nato mga mamumuo nga mo-demand sa atong katungod,” Borja said.

After seeking a wage adjustment in Metro Manila (P537 to P1,247) and filing an appeal last Monday, April 29, ALU-TUCP is now preparing to file wage hike petitions in Cebu province, Cagayan De Oro City, and Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions “in the next few days,” said its spokesperson Alan Tanjusay.
