15 Sep LTFRB eyes taxi fare increase to level Uber rates
In an article from GMA News Online, the Land Transportation and Franchising Board (LTFRB) has agreed to the proposal to increase taxi fares to level to the rate collected by Uber transport company.
LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III said that the increase on taxi fares will pave the way for an equal distribution of income since taxi drivers claim that they are not getting enough from their daily rounds compared what Uber drivers are generating.
He explained that the proposal of LTFRB for the new system of rating taxi fares would depend on running time rate so aside from the distance traveled by taxi, there would also be on the time travel.
In comparison, Uber prices its passengers based on the distance and the time spent for the ride which can be affected by factors such as weather conditions and traffic among others.
LTFRB has already conducted a dialogue with taxi operators and will be able to have a decision at the end of the month regarding the fare increase proposal.
