LTO Clarifies That Children Above 4’11 Are Exempted From Using Car Seats

Mga higala! Due to the confusion caused by his recent remarks regarding car seat requirements, LTO’s NCR Regional Director Atty. Clarence V. Guinto has issued a clarification statement!

In the statement, Guinto expressed that he was just joking and apologized for the said confusion.

He then clarified that children above 4’11 are indeed exempted from using a car seat and will be required to properly wear seatbelts instead. This is applicable even if they are 12 years old and below.

ICYMI, child restraint systems (CRS) or car seats will be required starting today, February 2, 2021, as part of Republic Act 11229 or the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act.
