LTO Enforces Law Prohibiting Drivers From Letting Passengers Ride At The Back Of Any Vehicle

Mga higala! The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has released a memo ordering to prohibit drivers from letting passengers ride on the outside or at the back of any vehicle, like pick-up trucks, multicabs, etc.

LTO will also strictly enforce the ban against motor vehicles exceeding their registered passenger capacity, as stated in Republic Act No. 4136.

Based on their memo, which was signed by LTO Asst. Secretary Edgar Galvante, this is due to the “alarming number of [recent] fatal road crashes involving trucks where passengers riding outside the intended seats or were on board the space provision design for cargo/freight died or were seriously injured.”
