12 Jul Mamondiong, Mindanao Lawyer Appointed by Duterte as New Director of TESDA
Last Friday, July 8, 2016, during Mindanao Eid’l Fitr ceremony at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City, President Rodrigo Duterte announced the appointment of Guiling Mamondiong, a Maranao from Lanao del Sur who is a lawyer, as the new director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Duterte said that Mamondiong would hold a Cabinet secretary’s rank.
The new TESDA chief was transportation and communications undersecretary during former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration.
During the gathering, Duterte spoke before the Muslim crowd that there would be more Muslim appointments in his administration as soon as the framework of the proposed system transition to federalism would be drawn up.
Meanwhile, TESDA’s former director Senator Joel Villanueva said that he respects Duterte’s decision in appointing Mamondiong as his successor.
“I will be here if he needs me, that’s my commitment to this new administration,” Villanueva said adding that he expects Mamondiong to maintain the ISO certification of the agency. “And also keep our Philippine Quality Awards, which is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance. God bless TESDA even more.”
