21 Sep 65-Year-Old Man Died as Fire Breaks Out at Camaman-an
On September 20, Tuesday around 1 a.m., a fire broke out at Cronin Village, Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City, three houses were destroyed and killed a 65-year-old man.
The fire began at the house of the victim identified as Mario Ciriaco Quambot, according to the fire investigators.
Neighboring houses were also affected, Gregorio Reyes’ residence was ruined and the house of Gilbert Lumoljo was partially destroyed.
Quambot was hurriedly brought to Northern Mindanao Medical Center by the Emergency Medical Services yet he was declared dead shortly.
The old man was said to have been suffocated due to the dense smoke, investigators presume.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Imedla Barazan stated, “Dugay siya nakagawas unya dako na ang kalayo then na-collapse mao gidala dayon sa hospital… Wala daw nahibal-an nga naa siyay sakit ingon sa family.”
The structural damage cost was at about P150,000 and the Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating the cause of the blaze.
The City Government will provide assistance to the victims of the blaze, City Council social services committee chairman councilor Reuben Daba said. As he spoke, “Motabang gayud ang siyudad, Atong i-assess unsa pa ang tabang nga angayan nga ihatag para sa ila especially sa burial assistance.”
Immediate support to the victims will be administered by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Daba added.
