06 Jul Mantianak Zoo: Misamis Oriental’s unique and majestic biodiversity
It is indeed nice to see different animals living together harmoniously in a zoo. Observing them doing their own different thing is like watching all your favorite animals in one place as if they come from a single family of species and that they have the same traits all throughout their DNA.
Here in Misamis Oriental, Mantianak Botanical Garden and Zoological Park is increasing in popularity and becoming one of the favorite pastimes of the locals and tourists. It is located in Barangay Poblacion in the municipality of Sugbongcogon in Misamis Oriental and was said to derive its name from the name “tiyanak”, a character in the Filipino folklore that has the ability to change from a human body of a baby to a demonic human-preying entity.
Mantianak Zoo is home to a variety of wild animals like tigers, wild boars, crocodiles, and monkeys among others. Aside from that, colorful birds like parrots, peacocks, and ostriches can also be seen roaming and flying around the zoo. You can also watch a variety of fishes and farm animals at different spots in the area which all in all makes about 80 kinds of animals.
For those who do not have a car of their own, you could take a ride by bus to reach Sugbongcogon which will only last for about 1 and a half hours of travel.
For just P100 (for adults) and P50 (for children) entrance fee, you will get to enjoy to roam around the place and witness different kinds of animal activities in one day. Taking pictures is something that never goes out of date especially if you are immersed in nature and with the company of live animals that are usually seen on TV.
The place is also perfect for a fun and exciting outdoor activity with friends and family or educational field trips. With the availability of cottages, you can have a nice time chilling and just have that moment of heart to heart talk with an important person.
The zoo was not only developed for the enjoyment of adults but also for children who would like to play around. Play houses and mini-ziplines are provided so that when kids get bored, they will still be able to enjoy their stay in the zoo.
Going to the zoo does not only mean taking pleasure in seeing these animals taking part in the natural cycle of things but also learning their importance and how they can have a great impact in the greater part of the world. It is by learning how these animals live that we can be more amused by how their existence matters.
