Burial of Former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on September 18

Last August 7, 2016, Malacañang confirmed that the burial of former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is currently being prepared. The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) which is the government office that supervises the Libingan ng mga Bayani will be the main office responsible for the burial preparations as said by the Palace in a press release. “Close coordination with the Marcos family” is included in the preparations.

Also, the Malacañang released a memorandum from Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana which instructed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Ricardo Visaya to “undertake the necessary planning and preparations to facilitate the coordination of all agencies concerned.”

“Submit your Implementing Plan to my office as soon as possible,” Lorenzana added.

It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte said that he would allow Marcos to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani since the campaign period. And earlier of that August 7, 2016, he reiterated that the former president and late dictator deserves to be buried at the Libingan saying, “As a former soldier and former president of the Philippines, I see nothing wrong in having Marcos buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.”

Reports say that Marcos burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani will be on September 18, 2016.
