14 Sep Local Health Experts Alert the Public Regarding 3 Fatalities of Meningococcemia in MisOr-CDO
The local health experts forewarned the public about the recent cases of meningococcemia which already took 3 fatalities in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental.
The latest meningococcemia fatality was a grade one pupil of Bayabas Elementary School identified as Jhasmine Villagracia, and was ordered to be buried immediately after her death last September 8, 2016, Thursday. For safety measures, the village health workers provided doses of medicines to the Villagracia household. Capsules of Ciprofloxacin (for adults) and Rifampoicin Suspension (for children) were also distributed by the Bayabas barangay health center.
Last September 9, 2016, Friday, a day after Villagracia died, the school principal of Bayabas Elementary School, Rosemarie Dullente, sought for help from the City Health Office (CHO) with regards to the distribution of medicines to the whole school population, especially for those who have made contact with Villagracia. Dullente also ordered the cleaning of the campus classrooms and surroundings to stop the spreading of the disease, and the suspension of all grade 1 classes.
Chairman of the committee on health and sanitation, City Councilor Dr. Maria Lourdes Gaane, said that when a member of a family gets sick for a span of two days already, it should not be neglected for it meants that there is an abnormality in the system of the person’s body.
The other one reported to be a fatality of meningococcemia was from Barangay Baikingon in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
