13 Sep MILF Seized 30 Drug Suspects in Maguindanao, Supports Duterte’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Campaign
On September 10, Saturday a rebel official said that 30 suspected drug pushers and users were nabbed by Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in two Maguindanao towns since Wednesday.
The arrests were in support of President Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs, Von al-Haq, spokesperson of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces – the MILF’s armed wing, said.
He said that the MILF, supported by government authorities arrested drug personalities, who were already warned but still pursue their illegal activities, as they conducted anti-illegal drug operations in Sultan Mastura and Sultan Kudarat.
Al-Haq said that those arrested would undergo further investigation.
He added, “Expect that there will be more arrests in the coming days.”
Last year, the MILF central committee ordered all field commanders to implement robust antidrug campaigns in their areas of operation.
Methamphetamine hydrochloride or commonly know as shabu was “haram (forbidden)”, MILF said as it ruins the life and the future of the Bangsamoro.
When Duterte sat as President, the MILF established an agreement with the government that would let them manage anti-illegal drugs operations in MILF-controlled areas.
However, under the agreement, MILF rebels were not permitted to get involved in arrests or actual antidrug operations and their participation was limited to information sharing.
Apart from the MILF, the New People’s Army (NPA) has also been conducting an anti-illegal drug campaign.
There were reports of NPA rebels killing drug suspects in some areas of Mindanao, such as in Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte.
Police officers and soldiers who were said to be involved in the illegal drug trade were also abducted by the rebels. The officers will be released later “in the spirit of the peace process.”
