05 Sep AFP: Only Mindanao is on full alert status, Luzon and Visayas be Vigilant
On September 3, Saturday morning, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) clarified that only the Mindanao region is under a full alert status and the not the whole country, this is after the deadly explosion at Davao City night market last September 2, Friday that killed 14 individuals.
AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla stated that only the Mindanao is under full alert status because of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf’s threat, particularly in Jolo, Sulu.
Padilla added that military forces in the Visayas and Luzon are on heightened alert. This clarification is for the proper guidance of all military forces.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declares a “state of lawlessness” in the Philippines authorizing the military and police to conduct security searches on vehicles and inspecting individuals in checkpoints. But President Duterte clarified that this declaration is different from the martial law as there will be “no curfews” and “no suspension of the writ of habeas corpus.” As he spoke, “It’s not martial law but I am inviting now the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the military and the police to run the country in accordance with my specifications.”
