06 Dec Mindanao will face temporary electricity oversupply
Rattled by the diminishing supply of electricity over the years, Mindanao will in fact experience a reprieve from the power outages that have plagued the region and experience an oversupply of electricity in the coming years.
In a report by Inquirer Net, Alsons Power Group said on Monday that Mindanao will likely see a surplus of generation capacity due to the number of power plants coming on stream and those owned by the Alcantara conglomerate.
The group said that the growth of electricity demand has dramatically increased over the years up to 3 percent. This growth is correlated to gross domestic product growth and we have seen a surge of growth potential in Mindanao since business activity was picking up after President Rodrigo Duterte assumed power, according to Alsons.
The Power Group described the growth similar to Central Visayas a few years ago when there was an oversupply of electricity but soon diminished due to high demand.
According to the Alsons Power Group, the oversupply of electricity that Mindanao will experience in the coming years may be short-lived as soon as demand will increase.
