“With the recent surveys in the presidential election we are now in a very unique situation that we are in the best position to elect the first Mindanaoan president of the Republic of the Philippines,” said by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) Laban.

With Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte leading the pre-elections survey, Pimentel said that Mindanaoans should prepare to have the first president from Mindanao.

“Let us grasp the day to produce the first Mindanaonon president of the Republic of the Philippines,” Pimentel said. “Congratulations to us all,” he added.

Confident that Duterte’s survey numbers will continue to rise versus its closest rival Sen. Grace Poe, Pimentel said quoting , “Based on the projection of the political experts, mathematics and survey experts, Duterte could even reach 36 to 38 percent based on the trending.”

In the last week’s Social Weather Stations Survey, Duterte scored 27 percent against Poe’s 23 percent, as compared to their statistical tie in mid-March.

The Davao City Mayor was popularly known for his image of being tough when it comes to crime issues and who has promised to bring federalism in the country.

However, Duterte has been criticized by rivals and on social media due to his controversial statements towards women and the other candidates. Adding his statement about the Philippines not to insist ownership of the South China Sea which Manila claims and refers to as the West Philippine Sea.

But above all these, Pimentel is still confident that Mindanao will become the center stage of the next administration with Duterte also widely accepted in Luzon and Visayas.
