13 Dec Minergy Power Plant Pollution In Balingasag, Mis Or
In an article posted by Sunstar.com, a report was brought to the Provincial Board of Misamis Oriental that the Minergy Coal-Fired Power Plant in Mandangoa, Balingasag created pollution in the nearby area.
With this, the Provincial Board of MisOr requested the help of other government agencies to verify the said issue. They conducted a public hearing and ocular inspection of the site last Wednesday, December 6, that was headed by Vice Governor Joey Pelaez.
In addition, the residents of the area were complaining about the unusual warming of the sea water due to the water flushed from the pipes of the plant. This allegedly resulted to the unusual death of various species of fish in the area.
Pelaez also said that the residents saw ‘toxic’ ashes that were carried by the wind to their houses and farms.
These issues resulted in an increase of health-related problems and low agricultural production since the Minergy Power Plant was started last September.
Further, the Misamis Oriental Provincial Board will tap the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Region10, Department of Health-NorthMin, Environmental Management Bureau, Department of agriculture and National Irrigation Administration to conduct studies regarding the problem.
Lastly, Pelaez added that a follow-up meeting will be conducted next month.
