Mga higala! The Local Government Unit of Misamis Oriental is now facing a complaint for singing the Philippine national anthem- “Lupang Hinirang” in Bisaya, during a flag-raising ceremony at the Capitol Grounds!

According to a report by GMA NEWS, the complaint was filed by the Oro Tri-Media Government Watch to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), through a letter emphasizing the Section 20 of Republic Act No 8491, or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines which states that “The observance of the flag ceremony in official or civic gatherings shall be simple and dignified and shall include the playing or singing of the anthem in its original Filipino lyrics and march tempo.”

Rene Escalante, the NHCP Chairman, has already sent a letter to Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano regarding this issue but they haven’t received any response yet from the said LGU.
