Jie-Jie Aisa, a designer from Misamis Oriental who shone in the recently concluded cultural costume competition of the Miss Philippines-Earth 2017 pageant last week at the Mall of Asia Arena. She showcased her Kuyamis-inspired Philippine Terno worn by Miss El Salvador, Elizabeth Amahan, who garnered the Best in Cultural Costume.
In an article from Sunstar.com, the creation of Aisa for the Miss Earth-Philippines 2017 was made up mainly of parts from the Kuyamis tree, a sweet variety of coconut which, according to Aisa, embodies the cultural heritage of Misamis Oriental from the time of the Spanish colonization up to the modern times.
Aside from Miss El Salvador, other candidates who wore her designs during the competition included two representatives from Misamis Oriental, Miss Manolo Fortich-Carmela Quirog and Miss Villanueva- Nellza Bautista, who won Miss Earth Philippines 2017 Fire.
Being a regular partaker in beauty pageants in the country, Aisa has long been recognized for her designs wherein she made the tie-breaker regional costume of Carla Madrigal in the Queen Philippines 2015 pageant.
She shared that she originally was a freelance makeup artist whose first clients were her high school classmates and teachers. From there, she explored more of her talents and improved her craft through different platforms and has reached different places to showcase her works.
Aside from designing costumes for beauty pageants, she also dresses her clients in fantasy attires, pageant gowns, bridal gowns, and even men’s wear.
