11 Sep MisOr Pupil Brings Home Medal from International Math Contest
Bringing home pride and honor to the province of Misamis Oriental, a grade 5 pupil named Chris Philip Guarana of Jasaan Central School, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental brought home a bronze medal in an international Math competition in Singapore.
In an article from Rappler.com, Chris represented the country and won an award together with other 272 other students from all over the Philippines in the International Mathematics Open for Young Achievers (IMOYA).
With such a young age, Chris is already a member of the Mathematics Training Guild (MTG) Philippines- Cagayan de Oro and has been attending Mathematical skills training since last year.
He also became a Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines (MathDAP) challenger at Iloilo City last April and he spent his summer vacation training in Manila as one of the participants of the Math Olympiad Summer Training Program, all of which made him qualify as one of the contestants of the Math competition in Singapore.
According to the Dr. Achieval Rodriguez, President of the Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines (MATHDAP), the young Math wizards earned 32 gold, 75 silver, and 166 bronze medals.
There are a total of 2,203 participants from China, Hong Kong, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand who joined in the Math tournament.
