It was a night of red gowns, evening gowns, casual fashion, and other styles. It was an evening of personalities, and as some would put it, it was an evening for one of the most anticipated highlights of the annual Cagayan de Oro fiesta celebrations, or the Higalaay Festival 2015 as it is called this year.

It was another night and event like a puzzle piece that would eventually lead to the final picture and climax of who would capture the crown for the annual Miss Cagayan de Oro Beauty Pageant.

It was a stunning night last August 8, 2015 at the Ayala Centrio Mall Activity Center wherein the 14 beautiful contestants vied for the best evening gown tilt and the best casual wear tilt. The winners of this event will be announced during the coronation night on August 22, Saturday, 7:00 p.m., to be held at the Limketkai Center Atrium.
Before anything else though, it was a night of showcasing the finest gowns, fashion, and style

The highlight of the whole evening gown competition and mega fashion show was the concept for the “fashionably red” gown. The red gowns and other gowns presented on this night were all creations from the very talented designer-members of the Oro Fashion Designers Guild and Designer’s Assembly.

This is the first time the evening gown competition and mega fashion show was held in an open public venue free of charge for anyone to see.

The red gowns certainly made quite an impression on the audience, with the ladies obviously strutting their best walks to show off the stunning red gowns. The miscellany of other evening gowns also wowed the crowd and this was quite audible even in the large crowd that filled the rafters up to the third floor of the mall’s activity center. There was hardly elbow room in the audience.

Another highlight was the featuring of the winning costume entry in the World Costume Festival by Cagayan de Oro designers Emmanuel Mulawan and Aquin Cap-atan.

According to the short speech delivered by Gean Tulang Cesar, the pageant’s head, the large number of ladies who auditioned this year and the difficulty in selecting the final contestants was due in part to the inspiration brought about by Miss Cagayan de Oro 2014 Beatrice Alvarez Pohl who was a semi-finalist in the Miss Earth Philippines 2015, Catherine Marie Almirante who got 2nd runner-up in the Miss Global 2014 in Los Angeles, and Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who bagged the Binibining Pilipinas 2015 crown.

Another factor is the increasing support of many Cagayanons especially from the local government sector and businesses.
