What does it take to join the prestigious Miss Cagayan de Oro Pageant even for just one year? Believe it when we say “hard work” because it does take hard work to join this pageant and even more hard work if you ever bag the crown or the runner-ups.
As early as January to February, the pageant’s organizers send out feelers and announcements for applicants to the pageant. Aside from the City Tourism Council, the local city government, and the Limketkai Center marketing team, this year’s pageant was organized by the JCI Bai Lawanen, Inc. Individual dance numbers were rendered such as the Asik solo Maguindanao tribe maiden dance, Tinikling, Banog Baylan dance, Bollywood dance, Belly dance, Hula dance, and Tango. Candidate number 4, Ana Monica Tan won Best in Talent.
The event was hosted by Ms. Dylanna Bax. Miss Cagayan de Oro 2015 Charinna Barro also made a special appearance to endorse certain upcoming city fiesta events as well as to invite the general audience to watch the coronation night.
July 29 at the Activity Center of the Ayala Centrio Mall saw the Evening Gown Competition, with each candidate strutting the ramp with their long gowns created by the Oro Fashion Designers Guild and Designers Assembly. Fabrics for the long gowns was provided by Gaisano City Mall. The candidates also ramped in their casual wear provided by Mags. There was also a fashion show segment as each candidate wore a dress designed by the OFDG or Designers Assembly. Candidate Number 11, Karla Estorba won Best in Evening Gown award.
While all Miss Cagayan events are open to the public, the traditional Swimsuit Competition is always held upon invitation only. This event was held at the function center hall of the Limketkai Luxe Hotel last August 6, 2016. All swimsuit outfits were provided by Cococabana with shoes by GIBI. Candidate Number 1, Sherlyn Doloriel grabbed the Best in Swimsuit Award.
In between each event, the candidates were kept busy visiting all sponsors at their shops, stores, or offices, either for a photo shoot or for a courtesy call. This year, a video shoot was done around the city with Cinemagix by Jashen Travilla and Ms. Kim Daguman. Outfits were provided by Boogie Musni Rivera, the OFDG, and the Designers Assembly. The video shoot took place at the Gaston Park, along the Gov. Ysalina (Carmen) Bridge, along Recto Avenue fronting MUST, City Hall grounds, and along Don A. Velez Street in front of VIP Hotel. In most cases, the RTA had to temporarily divert traffic away from the shoots where streets were involved.
Finally, the most awaited Coronation Night took place last August 13, 2016, at the Atrium of the Limketkai Center Mall. No less than Jonas Gafud of International Queen Maker, Manager and Mentor of Ms. Pia Wurtzbach and Ganiel Akrisha Krishna of Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific were two of the judges at the event.
