18 Feb Miss Earth England 2015 Katrina Manaya Kendall Proudly Calls Cagayan de Oro Her Second Home
Another beauty pageant titleholder, just like Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach calling Cagayan de Oro City her second home, is the 26-year old Filipino-British Miss England 2015 Katrina Manaya Kendall.
She was the daughter of Floramae Manaya who was born here in Cagayan de Oro, at Barangay Bayabas which is a coastal villafe in the eastern side of the city.
Just last week, she was able to make a courtesy visit to Mayor Oscar Moreno. And during her stay here in the city, she spent most of her time extending her advocacy through reaching out to the local youth and at the same time doing some charity works and campaigning environmental awareness.
“I believe that the key to protecting our environment is to promote environmental awareness, particularly among young people. Here in Cagayan de Oro, I have focused on doing just that,” as what she posted on her Facebook page.
She organized a group of young eco-volunteers encouraging to plant trees as well as visited the Boystown Orphanage in Barangay Lumbia and donated supplies, lead a tree planting activity and taught the residents on cleaning up their surroundings. She also met up with the students of Bayabas National High School where she talked about environmental awareness sharing tips on how to take good care of the environment.
Kendall said that caring for the Earth has always been her passion since she was younger living in London. According to her, educating the younger generation about the importance of taking good care of the environment and doing something about it was on her agenda assuring that when her reign as Miss Earth England ends, she will still continue her advocacy and do what she loves to do best.
She graduated with a first class master’s degree in Chemistry from University of Edinburgh which specializes in environmental and sustainable chemistry, she won her title in Vienna last December 2015 and has already toured in Asia specifically in Singapore, Thailand, Burma(Myanmar) and here in the Philippines.
