Mobile Subscribers Can Keep The Same Phone Numbers When Switching Networks Starting Sept. 30

Mga higala! Mobile subscribers will finally be able to keep or retain their phone numbers even if they switch to a different network or service provider, starting September 30, 2021!

This is part of the full implementation of the Mobile Portability Act or Republic Act No. 11202 of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) which was delayed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The said law was signed by President Duterte in 2019 and aims to let subscribers “keep their existing mobile numbers if they switch networks or the mode of subscription services from prepaid to postpaid, and vice versa.”

RA No. 11202 also prohibits telecommunication companies from locking-in mobile devices to their own networks (with phone plans and more).

In case your curious: Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and Dito Telecommunity are all part of this law and have already tapped a global company called Syniverse to handle the porting platform that will process applications and let users keep their phone numbers.
