02 Mar Moreno Labels Rival Rodriguez’ Win in MUST Mock Polls 2016 Doubtful
A mock polls held at Mindanao University of Science and Technology on February 26 just recently provided the results BUT on Monday, City Mayor Oscar Moreno labeled it suspicious knowing that City’s 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez won for the Mayoral position on both manual and online. Based on the said results, Moreno was way too far at second from Rodriguez with former mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Emano on the third place.
“Nobody knew about MUST’s alleged mock polls,” Moreno said, adding that there were no invitations sent to him and to the rest of the candidates which should’ve been their chance to present their platforms. This made Moreno question the way MUST student leaders conducted the mock polls saying that it was not coordinated and not supervised by the administration of the university.
In regards to this, MUST Supreme Student Council President Kenneth Asuncion stated it was their decision not to coordinate with the university’s admin in order to get “black and white” results. Meaning, they wanted to get results with no influence from any political party or even from the administration officials.
“Para sa akoa mas doble na hinuon credibility sa results because of the fact na student-initiated siya na mock elections, an independent one, walay interest of anybody,” Asuncion said.
According to Asuncion, there were about 1,116 students, faculty and staff of MUST did participate the mock polls manually with 1,3030 respondents through online. And that they\ll conduct anothe round of mock polls after the two remaining presidential debates.
Rufus Rodriguez has his views about the result saying that his contributions to the university including his scholars may have given him a big leap over the other candidates.
“I thank the MUST community for voting for me as their choice. I think my scholars voted for me because I was able to assist in their studies,” Rodriguez said.
About Moreno hearing talks that Rodriguez’ camp distributed flyers aahead of the mock polls, Rodriguez admitted that this was true. His student and youth leaders were the ones who distributed the flyers and leaflets showing information about the candidates of the CDP or the Centrist Democratic Party.
Rodriguez’ explanation about this was, “well this is election where we have to be known by the people dili pwede dili mahibaw-an that’s why naa ta flyers its more on information drive on the candidates and I am entitled to be known through leaflets and flyers.” And he added that his student leaders continued distributing flyers on his credentials all over the city and that, “they are working for me.”
“When Mayor Moreno won in XU mock polls, I accepted the results because that’s the will of XU. I hope he would also accept the fact that MUST choose me overwhelmingly,” Rodriguez lastly said.
