03 Mar Mountain Ranges in MisOr Off-Limits to Tourists Due to Continuing Military Operations
In a report from Sun.Star, traveling to Claveria town and Gingoog City in the province of Misamis Oriental is being discouraged. As suggested in a travel advisory which was issued by the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) last March 1, Wednesday, trekkers and other enthusiasts in outdoor sports, local and foreign tourists, were hinted to temporarily refrain from visiting the mountains of Sumagaya and Lumot in Claveria, and Balatukan of Gingoog City due to the continuing military operations against the New People’s Army.
According to PTO head Yvonne Waga, tourists are advised to wait until the suspension of the travel advisory is lifted.
Areas of Claveria, Gingoog City, and Salay are known to have NPA presence, thus, considered high-risk due to military operations.
However, the province’s tourist destinations in the coastal areas remained safe for visiting.
