04 Aug National gov’t urged to create anti-terrorism security corridor in Mindanao
In an article from ABS-CBN News Website, the Provincial Crisis Management Committee in Marawi City urged the national government to create a security corridor around Mindanao in response to reports of more ISIS-related terrorists have been thriving in the country recently.
The inter-provincial corridor would help security forces from the government to slash the number of supply and access routes of terrorists.
Zia Alontong Adiong, the spokesperson of the committee, said that terrorists are carrying out attacks in Lanao del Sur as a starting point and then attract more supporters as additional manpower to stage more strikes in other areas of Mindanao.
Adiong also said that committee is ready to receive more police and soldiers from the government in response to the growing concern of terrorism in the island.
Aside from the backing from the national government, local government units are also expected to participate in the dissemination of information to effectively execute the proposed corridor.
