13 May Navy Rescues 120 Voters in an Overloaded Vessel in Tawi-Tawi
On May 10, Tuesday commander of the Joint Task Force “Zambasulta”, Major General Gerardo Barrientos said that they have rescued a boat drifting in the sea off Tawi-Tawi loaded with 120 people in it.
“The report says here that the boat conked out and had been drifting for three hours before they were found and rescued by our Navy,” General Barrientos said.
During midday of that day, Tuesday, the overloaded M/L Rabson captained by Mudap Amidil has been found and rescued by Navy’s gunboat patrolling the area in the vicinity of Sibutu and Sitangkai Islands.
“It was learned that the vessel had been dead on the water for more than three hours already after incurring engine trouble. It was carrying around 120 passengers who had just voted in Sitangkai municipality,” Navy spokesman Lued Lincuna said.
The rescued passengers were then sent to Bongao town.
