26 Apr New Mindanao Railway to accommodate 120,000 passengers per day
In the recently held Dutertenomics forum last April 25, 2017, at the ASEAN International Media Center (IMC) in the Taft Ballroom of Conrad Hotel, it was stated there that the planned Mindanao Railway was designed to accommodate 120,000 passengers a day in its opening year.
On its first phase, the railway will have the Tagum-Davao-Digos route and will start construction in the third quarter of 2018 and targeted to be finished in 2022. The second phase of the project will track the province of Davao del Norte to the city of Butuan, the third phase from Butuan to Cagayan de Oro, and the fourth phase from Cagayan de Oro to Iligan and Zamboanga peninsula.
With a budget of US$9 billion, the Mindanao railway will be lined up together with other railway projects the Duterte administration is looking to complete within six years time of President Duterte’s term.
