05 Sep NFA Supplies 500,000 Sacks of Rice to ARMM
500,000 sacks of rice are now being shipped by the National Food Authority (NFA) to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
The rice supply will be provided for the families affected by the continuous government military operations against the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf in the region.
NFA Officer-In-Charge Tomas R. Escarez stated that the agency’s National Capital Region branch has begun sending out 300,000 bags to Maguindanao while the 200,000 bags will be shipped via Zamboanga City. NFA local office in Zamboanga City will distribute the rice shipment to Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi (BASULTA).
Escarez said that the rice stocks are intended to boost the government food security stocks in the region. He guarantees that the government has enough rice supply to prevent the price increase caused by the heightened military operations.
Relief agencies such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units (LGUs) will distribute the rice shipment to families affected by the armed conflict, Escarez added.
23,200 out of 300,000 sacks rice shipment have been delivered to NFA warehouses in Maguindanao while 30,000 of the 200,000 sacks of rice for BASULTA already arrived at its destinations.
