NMIS Releases Guidelines for Online Sellers Selling Processed Meat Products

Mga higala! For those who have plans in starting an online business involving processed meat products, read the guidelines issued by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) below:

1. Review the specific requirements of food law such as Republic Act No. 9296 (Meat Inspection Code) as amended by Republic Act No. 10536.

2. Register business to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and secure a business permit from the city government.

3. Ensure that the meat is locally-sourced or from NMIS-licensed establishments. With regards to imported meat, meat should be from a DA-accredited country/foreign meat establishment.

*Check www.nmis.gov.ph for the list of NMIS-licensed meat establishments and importers.

4. Sellers should secure a Meat Inspection Certificate (MIC) or Certificate of Meat Inspection (COMI).

Complying to the abovementioned guidelines ensures that products being sold are fit for consumption and are safe from being confiscated by the Anti-African Swine Fever (ASF) Task Force.
