11 Oct No More Text Scams?: SIM Card Registration Act Now Finally A Law
Mga higala! The revised SIM Card Registration Act was finally signed into law by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. yesterday, October 10, 2022!
With this, lawmakers aim to help stop the rampant spread of text scams and other similar crimes.
How? ICYDK, under this act, users will be required to register their subscriber’s identity module (SIM) cards with their respective telecommunication firms (Smart, Globe, DITO) using their full name, birthdate, address, and valid government IDs.
Only then can their SIMs be activated.
Telecom firms will then keep a list of their registered users and their details, which will stay confidential unless subpoenaed by the authorities in order to help an investigation.
