12 Oct NorthMin Police Urge Public to Register Their Firearms and Renew Their Licenses
The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao is encouraging gun owners to register their firearm units and to renew their licenses ahead of time before they expire so they could also avoid paying penalties and charges.
In an article by Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, Chief Inspector Roger Albacete of the Police Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) said that the number of firearms subject for license renewal has been cut down from 31,648 to 24,342 as of September of this year.
He said that the large number of gun owners who have yet to renew their licenses is due to some who were not able to comply with the requirements.
To address this issue, Albacete said that the RCSU formed the Licence to Own and Operate Firearms (LTOPF) Caravan wherein the process of renewing firearm units has been made easier without the inconvenience of going through different government agencies to comply with the requirements.
With that, the usual scenario of those who wish to register or renew their gun licenses attending seminars and passing examinations will be done in one place.
After its first launching in Cagayan de Oro City last October 10-11, 2017, the LTOPF Caravan will go to various places around the region which include Lanao del Norte, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon.
Albacete added that civilians are prohibited from carrying firearms outside of their homes to avoid being arrested by the authorities.
