Not Wearing Of Face Mask While Driving Now Considered As “Reckless Driving” Violation

Mga higala! Not wearing face masks while driving can now be considered as a “reckless driving” violation, according to the Land Transportation Office (LTO)!

In a recent interview, Acting Director Clarence Guinto said that driving without face masks while having one or more companions or passengers is “equivalent to reckless driving”. This is applicable for both public and private vehicles and for those who are from the same household or not.

However, exemptions can be granted in emergencies, and drivers can always contest an enforcer’s citation if they feel aggrieved.

ICYDK, this is part of Memorandum Circular No. 2020-2185, which was released in May 2020.

(Violators may face fines of up to P10,000.)
