23 Nov NPA: armed encounter may erupt in Mindanao
The New People’s Army may end its unilateral ceasefire declaration due to a looming armed encounter between their men and the government according to a report from Davao Today.
According to a spokesperson of the NPA in North Central Mindanao, Ka Allan Juanito, the military has deployed five battalions under the 4th Infantry Division and the Regional Public Safety Battalion of the Philippine National Police in 78 villages in the cities of Butuan, Gingoog, Malaybalay and Valencia and the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon.
It was noted that the government and NDF separately issued a unilateral ceasefire declaration after the resumption of peace talks in Oslo, Norway.
