In an article from Mindanews.com, the New People’s Army (NPA) has allegedly attacked a military reconnaissance patrol in Iligan City yesterday, November 12 which left one soldier dead and another wounded.

It was the newest attack carried out by the NPA since last week’s Thursday where the communist-rebel group ambushed a police car and a Toyota Fortuner in Barangay Tikalaan, Talakag, Bukidnon. Inside the Toyota Fortuner was a mother with her baby who was killed during the incident.

Capt. Norman Tagros, 403rd Infantry Brigade spokesperson, said that the target of the ambush was the police Mahindra vehicle which eventually crashed and took the life out of Senior Police Officer 3 Arnel Carillo.

Two days after, a group of forensic investigators came to the place of incident in a police vehicle has also been ambushed by the NPA which resulted in three people wounded.

Last Sunday’s attack took place while TSgt Edgar Andal and Corporal Raymart Pamplona were visiting the area along a road from Iligan City to Talakag, Bukidnon when they arrived at a checkpoint that was surrounded by suspicious armed men.

The army troop tried to escape but the rebels immediately fired at their direction, killing Andal and wounding Pamplona.

It was founded that the series of attacks were done by a single group called the NPA 68th Guerilla Front that is targeting areas bordering Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon provinces.
