Number of children joining rebel groups is increasing

A Catholic leader expressed concerns about the growing number of children who are joining terrorist and rebel groups to fight the government.

Ozamis Archbishop Martin Jumoad, a member of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said poverty and lack of guidance are the main reasons why children would join armed groups.

He urged the government to put a stop of these abuses to children and must counter this problem by providing livelihood and assistance to their families.

He added that this scenario is not new in Mindanao as children are recruited to train and become rebels or terrorist.
