06 Jun Number of displaced persons rose to 63,000, confirms DSWD
In an article from Sunstar CdeO, the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) rose to approximately 63,000 persons or 13,036 families recorded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 10.
In Iligan City alone, the agency recorded a number of 1,567 families or 7,190 individuals being sheltered at their Northern Mindanao Disaster Operation Center while 11,469 persons are identified under home-based IDP status.
CdeO also has 824 IDPs according to the city’s social welfare office while some other parts in Misamis Oriental like Kinoguitan, Alubijid and Opol have 8, 23 and 485 displaced families respectively.
In light of things, DSWD gave out a total of P12M financial aids to the displaced families which is divided to P2, 453,404 subsidized for non-food items and P9,308,644 for food.
The Iligan City government also extended their help by allocating roughly P1M cash assistance to rehabilitation efforts while the provincial government of Lanao del Norte made a donation of up to P852,442. An addition of P15,000 was also given by some non-government organizations.
Meanwhile, relief operations are being done by DSWD to the towns of Balo-i, Pantar, Pantao Ragat, and Matungao.
Families in evacuation centers and home-based IDPs at Iligan City are also the subject of relief operations by different organizations and individuals.
