09 Nov Omar Maute’s Wife Now Faces Criminal Charges

The wife of Omar Maute, Minhati Madrais, has been formally charged with criminal liabilities at the Iligan City Prosecutor’s Office last Tuesday, November 7.
In an article by Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, Madrais was charged with illegal possession of explosives after a number of bomb paraphernalia were recovered at her residence in Tubod, Lanao del Norte in a police operation last Sunday, November 5.
As of this writing, Madrais is being sheltered under the custody of the Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) but there are still possibilities that she will be detained at the Iligan City Jail once a commitment order will be released for her.
On the other hand, the suspect’s children, who have shown manifestations of radicalism, will be taken by the social welfare office.
Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, Spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao, said that several police personnel have already been deployed for the security and protection of Madrais whose colleagues in the Maute terrorist group might stage an offensive to take her out of the police custody.
